Just saw Abstract Rude post that his album, P.A.I.N.T. just turned 20 yesterday. Yes, another reminder that we’re getting old. But here I was driving around the city of San Diego chasing dope graffiti and street murals that seem to be popping up all over the place. There used to be a time when paint on a public wall was an instant felony but how things have changed. Amazing what a coat of paint can do right?
The most therapeutic thing for me lately is driving the streets of San Diego and admiring the beautiful artwork out here in these streets. Yesterday I hit Leucadia on the way up north on the 101 and stopped and snagged pics of what I could. Whenever I see these beautiful pieces it hits a certain chord with me.
I really got into street art in the 90’s through my love of hip hop. It was tracks from artists like Artifacts, Bigg Jus, and Ab Rude that gave me the vibe of a street artist. Today I want to shed light on Abstract Rude for his song “A Coat of Paint (The Finale)” which is such a beautiful track. It was the last track on his P.A.I.N.T. album and it is a song that makes me happy. Ab Rude pours his heart and soul into the track and the result is a classic track. A track that most will never hear in their lives but for underground rap fans, this track is a classic.
If you find yourself cruising the streets today just killing time, throw on the track. It’ll be the perfect soundtrack for your morning drive.
