What is Mid90s? For me, Mid90s isn’t so much about the specific years of 93 – ’96 but more about an era that will always hold a special place in my heart. When I think of the Mid90s I think of shiny Starter jackets, Saved by the Bell, clean Nike Jordan 3’s, Pro Era snapbacks, Beavis & Butthead, cassette tapes with parental advisory stickers, Micro Machines, dope skate stickers, Yo MTV Raps!, Stussy shirts, old wrestling videos, chromed out BMX bikes, baseball cards, OG Nintendo games (Tecmo Bowl, Excitebike, Contra, Double Dragon), arcade video games (Street Fighter 2, NBA Jams), and sooooooo much more. This era also represented me coming of age and shaping who I was going to become in life. During this golden era, passions were found, friendships were formed and classic stories were beginning to be written. Since I was a youngster I was never good at expressing my feelings so emotions were bottled up and compartmentalized in my mind.
As I grow older and embark on new chapters in my life (marriage! kids?) I know that I need to get some of this off my chest. Whether 3 people read this or 300 it’ll serve the same purpose. Providing self-help for the person that matters most… ME! We all have things going on in our lives that might not be seen on the surface. It’s how you live with these good and bad times that impacts your quality of life. I balance myself out by listening to music, watching sports, hanging with my OG crew and smoking a little bit of weed. Sorry mom and dad! My mind is full of racing thoughts 24/7 and it can sometimes be hard to focus or get a good night’s sleep. To keep myself sane I need some creative outlets. Putting a pen to paper has always served as therapy for me so I’ve been writing a lot over the past year to sharpen my literary skills. I’ve also been reliving old childhood stories with my friends and family so I can finally document some of these gems from back in the day. Mixed in with these stories will be a lot of gangsta rap and golden era hip hop references along with the brands, gear, sports, tv shows and other random things that were popular during these times. If you’re around my age, my goal is to take you all through a trip down memory lane. Maybe I can even inspire some of you to actually go after your dreams because this is exactly what I’m doing right here. Welcome to Mid90s!
