On the Friday before the Memorial Day, I’m putting the finishing touches on my new project, STEADY MOBBIN. Steady Mobbin’s not just the name of the playlist but a way of life. Bound together by motherfuckers that's known to break em' off something….
Give it to me.
When that weather gets nice out here in San Diego, I’m trying to roll my windows down and hit the coast smashing some slumpers in the whip. Test out some new track I missed like this one. This is beautiful.
But so is this…. RIP Mac and flowers to Jay Electronica.
Already getting off track here…. But getting off track on a verse is just fine over here on this side. Shout out to pioneers like 3X Krazy who would have Keak Da Sneak straight dumbing out over a beat. Songs like “Keep It On The Real” stay in rotation 30 years later.
But so do tracks like Fashawn over a Javelin beat with this here. “Going Home” is an example of a track that is an absolute classic but you haven’t heard it most likely. That’s where algorithms fail… Fashawn is the flower than rose from concrete yet all we see is Jack Harlow on TV. I probably sound washed with that line but fam… some of these emcees out of the west coast get too slept on. I don’t understand it.
It’s been going on for so long too. How does “One Time Gaffled Em Up” only have an accumulative 250K streams/plays on Spotify and YouTube? Just go watch this video and tell me it isn’t Doggystyle without the marketing engine and names behind it. MC Eiht is a legend in Cali but is he a legend outside of Cali? Debatable… why is that? Good music is good music.
Did you catch this Cudi track from 2007 that dropped last year? “DOSE OF DOPENESS” is exactly what they say it is. A dose of dopeness. Shout out to OH and to Cudi.
And not sure why “Us Placers” comes to mind but I’m not going to ignore it. Y’all up on this loosie? So smooth with the Thom Yorke… Verses are impeccable. Lupe… Kanye… Pharrell… Wow.
But then something like this will catch my eye… or I guess I should say my ear. The beat breathes while Gangsta Gibbs waxes poetic about coming out of the streets of Gary, IN.
This summer I’m trying to listen to slumpers only… what did I miss?
