Alright… Let’s catch you up quickly. Drake and J. Cole had a track called “First Person Shooter” where they mention themselves as the top rappers in the game with Kendrick. Here’s the video so you can catch a vibe.
Kendrick didn’t like the track because… well…. he is the lone GOAT. Let’s just go back to “Control” to watch how that unfolded.
K-Dot’s verse was a grenade on the game where he called out every emcee by name. No sneak dissing here! Hearing Mac Miller address “Control” on his “Friends” track on Faces was pretty hilarious though…. Mac brushed it off in true Mac Miller fashion while other emcees started probably doing push-ups the next morning while drinking green smoothies. Speaking of smoothies, you know I’m getting a little “Passionfruit” up in there.
We all know Kendrick is dope by now don’t we? If not, just watch this.
And if you don’t know Cole is dope by now, then listen to this.
And if you stay sleepin on Drizzy, he might just give 9th Wonder a call and get Elzhi and Phonte back on a track. Yup, Drizzy can make all-time bangers but he can lay low on the under as well.
This isn’t rap beef in the 2Pac and Biggie type way. This is rap beef in a competitive type way. Similar to something like this.
And let’s never forget that Drake gave Kenny his first official look up in the major leagues. And let’s not forget that Kendrick and Cole were in talks about an album together way back in the day. There’s proof in the pudding.
So let’s just grab our popcorn and watch what happens here. In the meantime, here’s a Kendrick Cole Drake Spotify playlist to hold you over.
