Alright look…. I’m just settling down at my computer and I’m finally getting into the new Benny the Butcher & Harry Fraud album, The Plugs I Met 2 as well as the new Kota the Friend & Statik Selektah album. They both dropped yesterday and I think these are 2 special albums that could go down as albums of the year. My wife is way into NCIS reruns (or something similar) in the living room and my baby boy is fast asleep in his crib. This means that I have maybe an hour before I have to get back to daddy duty so we’re going to make the most of this time together.
So what am I doing right now? Good question. I have one screen with a Michael Vick gem eBay auction that’s about to end in about 5 minutes. I have my max bid ready to go and when there’s 10 seconds left I will place my bid. Vick’s first few years during his time in Atlanta were explosive for a few years and he was so damn fun to watch. And that one year on the Eagles when he came in to start once Kevin Kolb went down? I think it will go down as one of the biggest waiver wire pickups in fantasy football history right? Wish I had him in at least one of my leagues!
My other screen looks like this where I’m working on this article…
The earbuds are currently on some Benny the Butcher and Hit-Boy “Legend” type vibes to get me ready for my next rookie card to chase.
I just won that Vick PSA 10 rookie card so now I’m going to find another song to listen to to get me ready for the hunt. Since Benny & Harry Fraud just dropped their album I’m going to get primed up with a Harry Fraud YouTube rabbit hole starting with his track with Curren$y, “Offloading.”
Since Curren$y is from New Orleans, I have to give a shout out to my main man Drew Brees who just retired. Drew’s career was on another level. Do you realize the injury he came back from? Do you realize how accurate Drew was? Drew beasted for years and is a 1st ballot Hall of Famer for sure. It’s only right that I show some San Diego and New Orleans love and chase a Drew Brees gem. It’s also nice to reminisce and see that old San Diego Chargers uniform in the mix on that rookie. Nostalgic vibes for sure. To research some Drew Brees cards, I flip over to the Sports Investor app and search Brees cards and view current Buy It Now auctions, recent transactions, and a 30 day lookback window of his sales to follow his trends. I saw what I wanted quickly and pounced. The 2001 PSA 10 Topps base rookie card is going for way too much so I slid in with a PSA 9. Not bad at all to get a little future HOF action for a player that I have ties to going back to his time with the Bolts. Shout out to Phillip Rivers who also retired this last year!
Alright, I’m now $700 in and I have to pump the brakes a bit. Can’t go up from here so I’m just going to ride slow for this. I need something more mellow in the headphones so I can chill out. Since I’m getting ready to listen to Kota and Statik’s new album, I’ll throw on some old Statik with Mac Miller and Termanology. “82 92” is such a good track. They could have done a full album like this. Flows on flows on flows from Mac and Term.
I’ve been watching a lot of hoops highlights recently and the Brooklyn Nets are nice. James Harden is playing amazing ball and so is Kyrie Irving. Joe Harris is a great shooter from the outside and Blake Griffin will give them some length. Deandre Jordan can be counted on for some sick alley-oops and Jeff Green will always slide in with some sneaky buckets. Durant coming back soon once he’s healed up. The squad is strong as we head closer to the playoffs. I’ve been looking at Harden rookie cards but they’re expensive AF so I’ve started throwing some offers out on some Kyrie rookies. A little more attainable for me and my budget right now. Are Kyrie’s handles top 3 ever? The best ever?
I’m going after the Kyrie Hoops rookie from 2012-2013. As a gem, it’s still under $200 which I think is a good value. Not as much upside for growth but I don’t see why this couldn’t head over $400 - $500 in the playoffs. Kyrie already has a title with Cleveland and he could get another this year. I know the Prizm is the one to go after but I’m trying to be on a budget with this one. Just won the card so I’m pretty happy with my purchases today.
Now it’s official…. I have to start selling some cards to feed this addiction of mine. It’s good though. I need to start selling on eBay again. Back in the early 2000’s I was a beast on eBay slanging old school rare rap CD’s for 10x the purchase price. I’m seeing some parallels right now in the sports card world which is interesting. The bubble hasn’t bursted yet right? I heard the Dallas card show was firing. I’m already plotting a way to get to the National Card Show in Chicago this Summer and I think I have the right angle to get out there.
Gotta get back to papa duty over here so I’m going to stay under $100 on this last purchase of the night. I've been watching OKC and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander balls out. The team isn’t that good but SGC really is. Really like the long term upside with him. Here are a few highlights in case you haven’t seen him play much.
His cards are starting to pick up some steam in the sports card world so I’m going to jump in while the prices are still affordable. $40 for this PSA 9 seems like a good investment right?
Alright folks…. Gotta get back to my life. How did I do on my purchases today? Yay? Nay? I’ll be back eventually to pick up a Kawhi but again, need to sell from my current supply before I make any more moves! Below are the new albums from Benny and Harry Fraud and Statik and Kota for you to give a spin. Not sure how many in the sports card world are up on the latest hip hop so I might have a super small niche of fans on this one.
