I’m not even sure where I first heard Jackson Whalan’s beats but I do know that the dude is nice on the boards. Jackson hails from Massachusetts and has an amazing ear for music. He recently released his 2nd beat tape with Ian Evans and the project is lovely. It’s called The Road Ahead Vol. 2 and it’s just some chill jazzy hip hop beats that you can sip your coffee and work to. If you missed The Road Ahead Vol. 1, I recommend you go back and peep those beats first so you can catch a vibe right into this new project. Might as well just let this driving video run as it’s the perfect visual compliment to the tunes.
Now I remember where I first heard Jackson Whalan. It was with the song “Chill Storm” which is just a beautiful track. It reminds me of a cold rainy day where all you want to do is bundle up and listen to some dope tunes. This beat to me is comfort music.
What I’m impressed by most with Jackson Whalan is his work ethic. Dude is a hip hop head first and foremost but in today’s music scene, you have to bring a ton of hustle behind your work to get your music heard. And that’s exactly what Jackson does. Dude hustles! Just listen to the story about how Jackson got connected with KRS-One. For those that think this hip hop game is easy you couldn’t be further from the truth. And if you didn’t know, Jackson isn’t just nice behind the boards as he flexes some bars when he’s not making music to bump in a coffee shop. Dual threat on the boards and on the mic! Absolutely love seeing Jackson’s reaction when he collaborated with one of his favorite emcees of all time.
Jackson is just good peeps so I want to do my part to get good music heard. Below is my favorite track on the new beat tape called “Back At It” and below that I have the new driving video which accompanied the new project, The Road Ahead Vol. 2. Give Jackson’s beats a spin when you need some background tunes to get your day started today. You won’t regret hitting play.
